MEETING IN PADRÓN

Hello.

After reading your suggestions, I think the meeting in Padron could be held between the 23th and the 30th of November.

If everybody agrees about the days, please, let me know. Have you checked the flights?

The following task is to fix how many teachers will take part in it and how many rooms you want me to book. I also need you to tell me what hotel you prefer: Nicoleta and Iwona have chosen Hotel Entrecercas but I don't know what hotel the other partners prefer.

Do you want to be together in the same hotel? (I think it would be better but...)

Would you like me to send you more information about hotels?

  1. Hello Everybody,
I agree that the meeting in Padron to be held between 23rd and 30th of November. I have checked the flights for the mentioned dates. There is no problem for the availability of the flight tickets.

We have fixed the number of teachers and students to take part. We are planning to come 3 male teachers and 2 female (one of whom is the headteacher's wife coming at her own expense), 3 students (all female).

We haven't decided about the hotel yet. If the students are staying with host families we just need one triple room (for 3 male teachers) and a double room (for a female teacher and the headteacher's wife). We want to stay in Santiago but we haven't made our minds about the hotel yet. Which hotel do you recommend us as wee need a triple and a double room? We would like to share the same hotel with other partners. If there are rooms available for all the participants in one or two hotels, we can also ask for a group price which might be a bit cheaper than standard price. Alternatively, we would also be pleased to be hosted by a volunteer family if possible. Not necessarily all the teachers all the time but may be one or few teachers for one or a few nights if offered by you. Because Turkish people like friendly family atmosphere. We believe we can share and learn much more in a family atmosphere. We also like to host our guests at our homes.

We also started the essay competition and quiz task. Can anybody share her/his ideas about the quiz please, what kind of questions can be prepared? I think I need some guidance for that to inform my students.

Look forward to seeing you all
    Best Wishes

  2. Hello everyboby,

About the quiz and the essay, we'd like to share some ideas about it.

We've concentrated on the history of Marousi, the suburb of Athens where we live. We thought that the evolution of the history of our area, in fact, unfolds the history of the whole country. We also tried to "pass" questions of identity through the ones we've written.
On the other hand, presenting our place during the first meeting will be a good opportunity to get known to each other.

Below we are sending you the quiz with 20 questions that we have prepared:

    QUESTIONS:
    1. Where are Greece / Athens / Marousi located?
    2. Why is the history of Marousi considered to be representative of Greek history?
    3. When did the Ionians settle in Greece and in Marousi?
    4. What was Marousi famous for in ancient times and which gods/goddesses did they honour?
    5. How does the name “Marousi” reveal the evolution of the language from the ancient Greek to Modern Greek?
    6. Who was the great Roman emperor who constructed the aqueduct whose ruins can be seen nowadays in and around Marousi?
    7. When did Marousi become a municipality and how is this linked to Greek revolution?
    8. What was the population of Marousi at that time?
    9. Which was the main good that helped Marousi prosper in the late 19th century? Which monument reminds us of that good?
    10. Who won the marathon race in the first modern Olympic Games held in Athens and what was his job?
    11. Why was pottery developed in Marousi?
    12. What did the workshops mainly produce at that time? How many workshops were there in the beginning of the 20th century?
    13. Who are the famous artists whose museums we can visit in Marousi?
    14. Which big athletic site is there in Marousi?
    15. Where were the modern Olympic Games of 2004 held ?
    16. What is the population of Marousi today?
    17. What are the main characteristics of modern Marousi?
    18. What are the inhabitants of Marousi employed with?
    19. Describe the daily routine of a young person in Marousi. What possibilities are there?
    20. What happens to the rest of Greece as far as routines and habits are concerned?

We hope that it will help you.

  3. The period of the meeting from the 23rd of November to the 30th is OK for us.
So we are going to stay in Santiago from the 23rd (we will arrive at late afternoon, h.20,00 more or less, and leave the 30th at 20,15 in the evening)
Paloma, do you know if there is a bus or a train to the Airport from Santiago centre?

    The Hotel?
As i see: Costa Vella is the cheapest hotel:
    single room = € 54 (taxes included)
    double room = € 69,2
    superior double room = 85,32

I couldn't find any prices from Rúa Villar website. I don't know if Paloma has received any news from them.
Just a question: don't you like the Hostal La Salle? Of course, it's a Hostal, not a hotel but even cheaper...
Of course, we want to stay in the same hotel with the whole group, but remember: we have to travel 5 times and money is not too much... heheheheheheheh

Paloma, I think it's better to explain what we are going to do for the first step with questions and quiz, please.

  4. Hello everybody,

We would like to tell you about the dates of the meeting at Padron from 23rd to 30th Nov: the period is OK for us but it is really difficult to be away from school for so many days. We are a small school with only 20 teachers and from our past experience from the previous Comenius, 7 days - 6nights is the ideal duration because: If we travel on 23rd and return on 30th, our last working day in school will be Mon 22/11 and we will return to classes on Wed 1/12. This means that we'll miss Tuesday twice and this is very bad for the students and there might be complaints.

So dear partners, do you agree to define the duration of the project meetings to 7 days - 6 nights?

Whatever we agree about the first meeting will be valid for the next project meetings too.

Anyway: if the other partners don’t have any problem being away from their schools from 23rd to 30th Nov, it is fine.

Now, concerning us, unfortunately we have to stick to 7 days – 6 nights.

Paloma, please let us know very soon, because we must book tickets, which dates you prefer: 23rd to 29th or 24th to 30th?

  6. Hello Alexandra and everybody.

I think 7 days / 6 nights is ok. From my experience in other Comenius it thought that the meeting would last 6 days / 5 nights in order not to miss too many classes and not to spend a lot of money.

I'd prefer from 23rd to 29th because we could have three days in a row for the meeting. But I'd like to listen to the other partners' opinion.

And, obviously, if you want to spend more days here, we'll be delighted.

  7. Hi,
I agree with you, Paloma and Alexandra, we mustn't spend too much money and we can't miss too many lessons.
But I chose those days because of low cost flights wit Ryanair company. It's not easy to reach Santiago from Rome.
Anyway I don't think it's a real problem to arrive there one day later or one day earlier. The important thing is to be there all together for 4/5 days and work on the project.
For example, if we organize the meeting from the 23rd to the 30th of November we would have:
Wed 24th, Thu 25th, Fri 26th and Mon 29th to work on the project; Sat 27th and Sun 28th to go sightseeing (unless you want to work on Saturday, too).
