REPORT ABOUT GREEK MEETING

(VOREEIOS LIBRARY, MAROUSI- February, 1^st 2011)

MEETING IN ROMANIA:

Dates: 7^th – 13^th April

Accomodation:

• Nicoleta informed us that no more than 4 students per country can be accommodated in families. The extra students would have to stay in the same hotel as the teachers.
• As for the hotel, she told us that there was a bed and breakfast near the school which was not very expensive (around 30/40 €), with enough rooms both for the teachers and the extra students.

Travelling:

• Nicoleta recommends us to fly to Budapest because our destination, Arad, is only about 200 km away and the trip by bus takes less than 4 hours. Nicoleta would be able to arrange a bus for us through a travel agency, which we would have to PAY DIRECTLY with a credit card (about 50 € per person).
• On the other hand, Bucharest, the capital city, is very inconvenient as it is very far (Arad is on the west of the country and Bucharest on the east) and there are no motorways. Furthermore, the trains are slow and bad.
• A second option would be to fly to Timisoara (45 km away from Arad). However, we should check the flights.

Money (at Budapest airport they accept euros):

• Useful information taken from Wikipedia: the currency in Romania is the leu (plural lei), which is subdivided into 100 bani (singular ban)
• Nicoleta advises us not to exchange money until we get to Arad.
• Anyway, credit cards can be used in any teller machines.

SCHEDULE FOR NEXT YEAR’S MEETINGS:

• As our Polish partners were interested in fixing the dates for the meeting in Poland, we agreed that it would be held from 6^th to 12^th of October.
• Information for far-sighting people: The nearest airport, Warsaw Chopin Airport, is about 120 km away from Ostrołęka, so the Polish partners suggest booking a mini bus from the airport to Ostrołęka (around 25 € per person).
• As for the dates of the last two meetings, we will be able to fix them when we meet in Romania.

FINAL POWER POINT PRESENTATION FOR THIS YEAR:

• Nicoleta suggested showing our final power point presentations during the meeting in Romania and uploading them on the webpage after the meeting. We all agreed on it.

QUIZZES

• Romania, Turkey and Spain must upload the questionnaires (hot potatoes) about their own subjects on the webpage and on the forum before the 1st of March.

WEBPAGE

• Liana taught us how the webpage created by the Romanian partners worked and asked for ideas to improve it. She also showed us how to upload the different documents. Furthermore, she agreed on sending us a tutorial with the instructions to follow.

HOW TO IMPROVE THE STUDENTS’ COMMUNICATION:

• Taner commented that the students did not use the forum so we should help them communicate. Eleni pointed out that they did communicate, not through the forum, but through Facebook or any social nets, which was another goal of our project. Anyway, we admitted the need of encouraging our students to use the forum.
• Therefore, Taner suggested organising six multinational teams, each of them composed by students from the six countries, who would have to communicate in English in order to do the tasks we entrusted them.
• The teams 1, 2 and 3 will have to work on the quizzes that Romania, Turkey and Spain will upload before the 1^st of March.
• Team 1: Romania
• Team 2: Turkey
• Team 3: Spain
• The other three groups (teams 4, 5 and 6) will work on the meetings held in Spain and Greece, as well as on the one which will be held in Romania. Each group must do a short presentation about one of the three meetings. They can choose to do it with a power point, which include some comments on the slides. The presentation will have a maximum of 15 slides, although the students will be able to put a few photos on the same slide.
• Team 4: Meeting in Spain
• Team 5: Meeting in Greece
• Team 6: Meeting in Romania

• Taner will be responsible for organising the teams and uploading them on the forum and the webpage. He will need us to send him the names of the students and the topic they will work on.
• The deadline for sending the names of the members of the different groups is the 18^th of February.

GREEK WEEK:

• We agreed that each country will be able to hold the Greek week whenever they want, as long as it is before the meeting in Romania.
• We checked the material the Greek partners had given us in order to celebrate the week:
• A CD with the traditional dances that the students had learnt, recorded by Kristallenia
• A book about Marousi, given to all of the teachers by the Marousi council as a gift
• A book from the Olympic Gallery, given both to students and teachers, also as a present
• A CD telling the history of Marousi, which was given to all the students
• Some recipes our partners will send us by mail or upload on the webpage
• We can organise different activities:
• An exhibition about Greece with maps, books, photos…
• The projection of a Greek film
• The public reading of texts taken from famous Greek writers
• A conference about Greece
• Dancing
• Different Olympic contests (running, for instance)
• All the students that have travelled to Greece should write a report describing their experience and upload it on the forum and the webpage.

Thursday, Jan. 27^th               Arrivals of teachers and pupils.

Friday, Jan. 28^th                                           

Morning                                Welcome the guests, both pupils and teachers at the Marousi Town Hall.

9.30 – 14.00                           Presentations on the project “Building Europe from Roots” from all the participating schools. 

Evening                                  Dinner at a traditional Greek tavern. Teachers only.

Saturday, Jan 29^th

9.20                                        Meeting of teachers and pupils at the Akropolis metro station. We are going on a sightseeing tour with a guide to the historical center of Athens (New Akropolis Museum, Dionysus Theatre, Akropolis, Ancient Market,  Monastiraki).

Sunday, Jan. 30^th                  

7.30                                      Departure early in the morning (teachers & pupils) for a one day excursion to the ancient theatre of Epidauros and to the archaeological place of Mykines. Then we will visit Nafplio, the first capital city of modern Greece. Those places are in the east Peloponese, about 200 km away from Athens.

Monday, Jan. 31^st     

Morning                                

8.15 – 10.45                           Pupils: the participating pupils attend lessons in the classes of their host pupils.

11.00                                      Pupils visit the Olympic gallery in Marousi.

                                               Teachers: It is a nice opportunity to visit sites in the center of Athens related to the Olympic Games like the Panathenian Stadium, where the first modern Olympic Games of 1896 took place, and the Zapeion Megaron, the first athletes’ Olympic village.

                                                

Tuesday, Febr. 1^st                            

Morning                                

8.15 – 9.00                             Pupils: the participating pupils attend lessons in the classes of their host pupils.

8.30 – 9.00                   Teachers: the participating teachers visit the school and are introduced to the members of the teaching staff.

9.00 – 13.00                                       Pupils: they take part in sports activities (archery and tree climbing) in Sygrou park. (They should wear trainers and tracksuits.)

9.00 –11.00                            Teachers: they visit the Olympic picture-gallery in Marousi.

11:30 – 13.30                    Teachers go to the municipal library and discuss issues concerning the project  like: evaluation – report on the second project meeting and schedule of the forthcoming project activities.

Evening                                  Farewell dinner at a restaurant with Cretan cuisine. Teachers only.

Wednesday, Febr. 2^nd          Departure of guests.

Meeting in Athens, program and more...

Hello dear partners,

In the first file attached you will find the list of the participants (teachers and pupils), in the second the list of hosting pupils and in the third the final programme of the meeting in Athens.

I don't know the time of arrival /departure of some parners yet ... That's why they are non filled in the programme. When I fill the hours, we will be ready to upload the programme on the blog.

So, I need from all of the partners:

a) to confirm to me the time and flight number of your arrival and departure from Athens.

b) to tell me how much time you need for your presentations on the project and the title / theme of your presentation.

c) to give me a mobile contact number for each country group. I might need it the days you will be here.

WORKING SCHEDULE FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2010-2011

1.     DATES FOR THE MEETINGS IN GREECE AND ROMANIA

The dates for the meetings in Greece and Romania had to be brought forward due to the school calendar established by the Greek Educational Authorities, who do not allow teachers or students to travel after the Easter holidays.

They will be held on the following dates:

• Greece: The meeting will take place between January, 27th (arrival time) and February, 2nd (departure time) 2011.
• Romania: It will very likely take place between April, 7^th and 13^th 2011. However, these dates have not been confirmed yet.

2.     The topics each school will be working on during the first year of the Comenius Project are the following:

• Spain: Greek and Latin Mythology in Literature, Art, Music and Cinema.
• Greece: The Olympic Games
• Italy: Roman Art
• Poland: The origins of Democracy
• Romania: Mathematics from the beginning to the present
• Turkey: The waterway system

3.      During the meeting held in Spain, each associate member presented a draft using different formats (power point or dossier) which showed an outline of the work they were going to develop. It was agreed that all the schools must produce a power point presentation of the work in progress so as to present it at the meeting in Greece. This power point presentation mustn’t be longer than 15 minutes in order to make the organisation of the meeting easier.

4.      Since each associate member will be dealing with a different topic, it was decided that each country would upload a quiz of 10 questions with closed answers or hot potatoes (= a quiz of 10 hot potatoes questions?) to the forum opened by the Italian school for this project, in order to keep one another informed about our progress. The deadline dates to upload the questionnaire into the forum were agreed as follows:

• Greece, Italy and  Poland: December, 10^th  2010
• Spain, Romania and  Turkey: March, 1^st   2011

5.     Our project also includes opening a web page. Since our Romanian associates have more experience in IT, they offered to do this task, which is planned to be finished by the time we meet in Athens. We decided to name the page by using an acronym such as bfr>before (http://www.before.eu/), and also agreed to design a logo as well as find an aphorism, all of which are meant to summarise the idea of our project topic: Building Europe from roots. The deadline to present proposals will be January, 20^th .

6.     During the meeting in Spain, we all  worked on / contributed  possible ideas to celebrate the Spanish week, which will be used as a model for the celebration of the weeks dedicated to the other five countries. We agreed on the following:

§        Load a report on the forum/webpage, including texts and photos/videos about the meeting in Spain. Each country must load its own report.

§        Load the news cuttings about the meeting which were reported in each country local newspapers and the two radio interviews broadcasted in Spain.

§        Fix a date for the exhibition to be held by all the countries (between December 17^th and 23^rd)

§        To begin with, each country can show its own report to its school community.

§        A panel with a map of Spain, political organization, administrative division, languages, population, the most famous cities… can be shown

§        Recipe (for instance, Spanish omelette): you can organize a competition.

§        The Spanish teachers and students will prepare a list of films, musicians, writers they recommend.

§        Projection of a Spanish film at the library.

§        Students can ask their hosts to inform them about their music  likes

§        A conference about Spanish literature, if possible.
